Gimp for Windows is an open-source graphics editing application. You guessed right, the application is for Windows, but the project is available for both Linux and Mac OS X as well. The source code is available to download but a third-party member of the project distributes the installer for Windows. The application is much like any photo-editing software out there. In my opinion GIMP resembles Photoshop's looks. The application is divided into several panes that comprise all the tools that you can use. The main one is on the left, like on Photoshop. There you can pick your tools and apply them to the main picture. Loading and Creating pictures is extremely easy and the application works great. There haven't been any lock-ups or crashes during the time that I have used it. I need to do some editing work once in a while, and an application like Photoshop is overkilling for me. Since this is an open-source project, it is free for non-commercial use and the tools that I need are all there. Plus, I can use this on any computer. The most up-to-date version on the developer's website is source code 2.6.3. However, this review focuses on version 2.2. Thus, all the screenshots belong to that version.
